Karel Buls (1837-1914), fungeerde van 1881 tot 1899 als Burgemeester van de stad Brussel. Uitermate bedrijvig op het stuk van de vrijwaring van het stadsbeeld en de monumenten, werd hij tenslotte voorzitter van het in 1903 opgerichte « Comité d’études historiques du Vieux Bruxelles » (comité voor de historische studie van het oude Brussel). Door de jaren heen, bracht dit comité een rijke fotoverzameling bijeen, die nu nog van onschatbare waarde is bij het natrekken van de Brusselse geschiedenis.

CHARLES BULS, PRECURSOR OF THE CONSERVATION OF URBAN SITES
Charles Buls (1837 -1914), mayor of the city of Brussels from 1881 to 1899, has always been worrying about the conservation of monuments and urban sites. He also actes as a president of the « Comité d’études historiques du Vieux Bruxelles » (committee for historical study of the old Brussels), which was founded in 1903. This committee build up a rich collection of photographies, that still remains of great value for the history of Brussels.
