MILLE ANS DE TRANSPORT A BRUXELLES

La Société des Transports intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB) a réalisé une importante exposition sur l’histoire des transports, qui resta accessible au public pendant plusieurs mois en 1979. Cette heureuse initiative démontre le rôle que l’histoire des techniques pourrait jouer dans la nécessaire réconciliation entre l’homme et une technique devenue, pour beaucoup, incompréhensible, voire suspecte.

Abstract

A THOUSAND YEARS OF TRANSPORTATION IN BRUSSELS

An important exhibition on the history of transportation was organized by the STIB-MIVB during several months in 1979. Such happy initiative is illustrative for the prominent part the history of technology could play in healing the breach between man and a technology growing more incomprehensible and suspicious to everybody.

Duizend jaar vervoer te Brussel: onder dit motto liep in het metrostation Anneessens, een tentoonstelling als bijdrage van de Maatschappij voor Intercommunaal Vervoer te Brussel (MIVB) tot de viering van het Millennium van de hoofdstad.

Voor wie belangstelling heeft voor industriële archeologie, was deze tentoonstelling op meer dan één punt merkwaardig. Het was er de inrichters in de eerste plaats om te doen, een zo ruim mogelijk publiek te bereiken. Opzet was – aan de hand van een honderdtal afbeeldingen en maquettes – op overzichtelijke wijze de evolutie van het vervoer te schetsen. Het studiemateriaal kwam voor het merendeel uit enkele hoofdstedelijke musea en het Prentenkabinet.
