BEKNOPTE GESCHIEDENIS VAN DE DRINKWATERVOORZIENING IN BRUSSEL
De auteur schetst de evolutie van de waterbedeling vanaf de prille middeleeuwen tot bij het ontstaan (in 1891) van de Brusselse Intercommunale Watermaatschappij. De eerste vorm van georganiseerde drinkwaterbevoorrading dateert vermoedelijk van het begin van de 12e eeuw (Benediktinesserabdij van Vorst).
Dank zij de bemoeiingen van de mechanicus Müller, kent ze een belangrijke ontwikkeling in de 17e eeuw. In de loop van de 19e eeuw, geeft het stijgend verbruik aanleiding tot een nieuwe schaalvergroting (door de aanvaarding van het ontwerp van ingenieur Carez: 1852).
Abstract
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF DRINKING-WATER IN BRUSSELS
The author is describing the evolution of the supply of the city of Brussels, from the early middle ages till 1891, date of the foundation of the « Compagnie Intercommunale Bruxelloise des Eaux ». The first organized distribution system probably dates from the beginning of the 12th century (in the abbey of Forest). During the 17th century, important improvements are made, due to the working of an engineer called Müller.
Finally, the raise of the consumption in the 19th century, signifies the start of a new organization, by the adoption of the plans of the engineer Carez (1852).
